Red Bull World Cliff Series - Polignano a Mare 2022

The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, founded in 2009 and created by Red Bull, is a yearly international series of cliff diving tournaments in which a restricted number of opponents compete for the Cliff Diving World Championship title. Divers plunge from a platform height ranging from 21 to 27 m. Tournaments are restrained to a limited number of venues around the world. The 2022 tournament is taking place in 8 venues – Boston (USA), Paris (France), Copenhagen (Denmark), Oslo (Norway), Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Sisikon (Switzerland), Polignano a Mare (Italy) and the final round in Sydney (Australia).
Since its inception in 2009, the Italian tournament round usually takes place in Polignano a Mare, a town in the metropolitan city of Bari, the capital of Puglia. Located on the Adriatic sea and known for its hills and beautiful coastline, Polignano a Mare has always been a favourite location for cliff diving athletes because of its naturally diving-inclined environment, beautiful and vast coastline, mild weather and friendly reception from the residents.

The 2022 series is scheduled to hold on September 25th 2022, at the same venue. Gladiators in the world of cliff diving will once again converge at Polignano a Mare to contend for the coveted cliff diving world championship award.

24 Contestants, 12 female and 12 male, will dive from two platforms placed 21 meters (female) and 27 meters (male) above sea level. These 24 contestants include 16 permanent athletes who will appear at every other venue this season and eight wildcard divers.

From these platforms on a private home's balcony, these cliff divers will dive into the Adriatic sea with awe-inspiring acrobatics.
One unique point of the Italian series of the tournament is the unusual path to the platforms. Contestants must negotiate a crowded beach, walk barefoot through the bustling old town of Polignano a Mare, and then arrive, via a private living room, at the platforms mounted on a rooftop terrace.

Due to this uniqueness, the Italian round is one of the most popular venues on the international circuit of the Red Bull Cliff Diving competition. Free-falling from up to 27m with breathtaking acrobatics displays, Polignano a Mare will witness cliff divers perform aesthetic activities and falls of extraordinary sophistication. Known to be pure, breathtaking and full of stimulating theatrics, residents, tourists and fans of cliff diving troop out en masse to watch the tournament from various positions on land and on water.

Also, being the last round before the season finale in Sydney, Australia, in October, the best divers in the world will battle for crucial championship points contending in various groups of diving – front, back, inward, reverse and headstand and points will be awarded by five judges based on their final event postures.
To watch this tournament, the event will be broadcast live on Red Bull TV on September 25th and will be shown exclusively on ESPN+ (only in the US). It will also be broadcast live on Red Bull’s Facebook and YouTube channels.
